Which Mayco glaze or underglaze will you use?
Choosing a glaze can appear perplexing. In reality, there are only a few criteria you need to consider to make your selection less daunting.
Your choice of glaze or underglaze depends primarily on the firing range of the clay your piece is made from--high fire (cone 8 - 10), mid fire (cone 5-6) or
low fire (cone 04-06) clay. Knowing your clay is the first step to decorating. Under normal circumstances all clays are bisque fired to cone 04 prior to glazing.- Mayco's Underglazes can be applied to the raw clay and to bisque forms. Most can be fired to cone 6 with some color variation from firing at cone 06.
- Glazes suited for cone 04/06 clay can sometimes be fired to cone 5/6 with interesting results. On the other hand, glazes suited for cone5/6 will usually not mature at cone 04/06.
- What age group is using the product?
Some glazes/underglazes are more suited to younger artists. - What technique you are trying to achieve?
There may be a commercial glaze that suits your vision.

Magic Metallics
are not a faux finish. You are creating a real metal finish. Metallic finishes are not paint, but a coating that has actual ground metal particles suspended in an acrylic sealing compound. The metal particles adhere to the surface and cause that surface to look as if it is actually made of metal.
