About Posts

Kiln FurnitureCreate a multi-level firing chamber inside your kiln by placing kiln shelves on kiln posts

For longest shelf life, we recommend you always “3-post” your shelves. A 3-post configuration is the most stable support insuring even shelf weight distribution to eliminate “rocking” during firing. In addition, shelves should be “rotated” on a regular schedule. To properly “rotate” a shelf, it must be flipped and turned so that the kiln posts touch on the same positions but on the opposite side of the shelf. This will fully reverse firing stresses and warpage. Always place post over post when stacking a kiln for maximum stability and strength.

Thin Kiln Posts (Square 1" thickness)

These posts are great for very small kilns.  They are not recommended for high temperature firings and heavy loads. The manufacture rates them at cone 6.  You may be able to take them higher (up to cone 10) depending on how heavily/evenly they are loaded.

Medium Kiln Posts (Square 1.5" thickness)

These posts are great for firing up to Cone 6.  They can go to Cone 10 depending on how heavily / evenly they are loaded.

NOTE: Kiln posts are fragile.  We make every effort to pack them well, but sometimes one will break in shipping.  Since you are likely to break posts as you use them, we recommend that you purchase extras.
